Mickey Mouse Operation At Disney Cruise

In Full Metal Jacket heavily armed Marines are trying to retake Hue

Scenes of death and destruction amid the futility of the Vietnam War on display

As the movie nears its end the Marines moving slowly up a shell scarred street
Break out in song as they move slowly and warily on their feet

Not some patriotic Souza like song

But rather a theme from a series that suggests this war and Hue operation is wrong

“Who's the leader of the club
That's made for you and me
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
Hey there, hi there, ho there
You're as welcome as can be
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E”

A Mickey Mouse operation is one that is  amateurish, stupid, senseless, and inept

Derogatory words that if you want to remain in business when dealing with real customers you must never forget

Fast forward from a movie set to real life where a dream vacation is about to begin

A Disney Cruise for a family of four with two small kids laughing and full of excited grins

The family of four will become five as mom just started her 25^th week

Her doctor signed off on the vacation so the “magic” of a Disney cruise the kids could seek

Although a Disney ship may be a floating castle of fun

Not a place to deliver babies while cruising to the island in the sun

A women at 25 weeks has less chance to board than a camel through a needle’s eye

Luggage may have been boarded but as to the pregnant lady their boarding was denied

What makes the operation that followed look like a sequel to Full Metal Jacket

Is that showing the doctor’s letter to no avail probably a jumpy agent fearing a racket

Called armed security to remove the family while their luggage was removed from the ship

Or maybe she thought a pregnant lady would waddle up the gangplank to give the agent the slip

Security arrived SWAT armed and clad to remove this family with kids in tears

Looking at real guns probably also feeling a lot of fear

From the air conditioned terminal with seats to outside in the hot humid Sun to the luggage await

To stand outside for two hours to get luggage from the hold and through the terminal gate

This was truly a Mickey Mouse operation that could have been so easily solved

Instead of beefy armed security Mickey and Pluto should have been involved

Playing with the kids inside the terminal until with luggage the family could depart

Not a perfect ending but at least a way to a vacation in Florida attempt to restart

And for Disney you should be castigated not for your insensitivity to the 24 month cutoff for the cruise

But rather how quickly an armed response was the option to deal with the situation you went to choose
